The Curzon-Ahlborn efficiency for three different energy converters
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this work we present three energy converters which have the same efficiency under certain optimum conditions of performance. The first one is the well-known Curzon-Ahlborn finite-time heat engine. The second one is an infinitetime cycle operating between two thermal bodies with finite heat capacities. The last case is a water mixer working as engine, which is designed with two stationary fluxes of water at different temperatures, T1 and T2, with only one exit, at temperature T, the specific heat capacity, c, is considered as a constant. The three converters under maximum power output, maximum work and maximum kinetic energy output, respectively, have the same Curzon-Ahlborn effiency, that is, 1 2 / 1 T T CA − = η , being T1 and T2 the extreme absolute temperatures involved in the performance of each converter.

Van der Waals gas as working substance in a Curzon and Ahlborn-Novikov engine
Using a van der Waals gas as the working substance the so called Curzon and Ahlborn-Novikov engine is studied. It is shown that some previous results found in the literature of finite time thermodynamics can be written in a more general form, means of this gas and by taking a non linear heat transfer law. 1. Introduction In classical equilibrium thermodynamics the efficiency of a reversible the...
متن کاملEfficiency at maximum power: An analytically solvable model for stochastic heat engines
We study a class of cyclic Brownian heat engines in the framework of finite-time thermodynamics. For infinitely long cycle times, the engine works at the Carnot efficiency limit producing, however, zero power. For the efficiency at maximum power, we find a universal expression, different from the endoreversible Curzon-Ahlborn efficiency. Our results are illustrated with a simple one-dimensional...
متن کاملMolecular kinetic analysis of a finite-time Carnot cycle
We study the efficiency at the maximal power ηmax of a finite-time Carnot cycle of a weakly interacting gas which we can regard as a nearly ideal gas. In several systems interacting with the hot and cold reservoirs of the temperatures Th and Tc, respectively, it is known that ηmax = 1− √ Tc/Th which is often called the Curzon-Ahlborn (CA) efficiency ηCA. For the first time numerical experiments...
متن کاملOn Optimization of a Non-Endorreversible Curzon-Ahlborn Cycle
A non-endoreversible Curzon and Ahlborn cycle is analyzed by introducing a factor of non-endoreversibility. The form of power output and ecological function, and the role of this factor is discussed. The Gutkowics-Krusin, Procaccia and Ross method to build a general expression for both the power output and the ecological function for this cycle is used. A numerical analysis of these expresions ...
متن کاملA Finite-Time Thermal Cycle Variational Optimization with a Stefan-Boltzmann Law for Three Different Criteria
This work shows the power of the variational approach for studying the efficiency of thermal engines in the context of the Finite Time Thermodynamics (FTT). Using an endoreversible Curzon–Ahlborn (CA) heat engine as a model for actual thermal engines, three different criteria for thermal efficiency were analyzed: maximum power output, ecological function, and maximum power density. By means of ...
